It was inevitable really. After her international debut at Cannes Film Festival last year, as well as solidifying her position as one of Dubai's most inspiring women, in fashion, television and overall entrepreneurship, Tamara Al Gabbani has kicked off 2012 with a significant media frenzy.

As of now, she graces the front cover of the UAE's POSE magazine, and in it reveals the secrets to her success thus far. Dressed in one of her own designs, Tamara oozes colour, vibrance and every little bit of that "sweetheart" label everyone seems to associate her with. We thank you POSE.

Ok now this NEXT cover, due for release in February 2012, is probably the most anticipated of all publications in the UAE region, period. And full stop.

Front Row Mode are going glossy. Yes friends. That infamous blog, known for its ability to celebrate the best in style, and so hilariously expose the worst, will soon be available on Dubai's magazine shelves too.

International singing sensation, slash style queen, slash every woman, slash "can you say new age Grace Jones" visited Kuwait recently. A very special Christmas trip dedicated to the American boys (and girls) currently stationed in the region under the auspice of the United States Army.

She gave them a glorious slice of home, music, love, fashion and good times. Her show, which toured across a number of base camps in the gorgeous little Gulf state of Kuwait, included reminiscent moments with a Real Love dedication to her idol Mary J, the obvious world-wide hits American Boy, One Love and Break My Heart, as well as sneak peak introductions to new material off her highly anticipated LP All of Me.

This Gulf state has impressed us. Spoiled us in fact. A hidden gem of unadulterated creativity, thinkers, activators and hard grafters – truly, truly charming…here’s why:

The right pose.

First of all, can we just have a moment on how inspiring the fashion is here? Holy. Moly. Shopping districts and eateries are basically very entertaining runway shows...and I was most pleased with my front row seat: A radiant view of unabashed experimentation. Unabashed is the key word here. Just unafraid to try. Fearless, and fierce with it. Eloquent and crazy at the exact same time. Forward yet traditionally respectful. Sexy yet impeccably tasteful. Unique vintage odes merged with a “yes I took it there” ghetto fabulousness! Believe me. I saw that. Furthermore, never once did I witness a vibrant mix of colours done badly. A pause for applause, if you will.

The bright home.

Missoni Hotel, which opened back in May of this year, was our chosen place of residence. It was cute, from start to finish, and if you’re a Missoni lover then you’ll enjoy drenching yourself in absolutely everything. Indeed, the hotel literally dripped in the brand’s trademark psychedelic colours, patterns and floral textures.

The staff were wonderful too, helpful (but non-invasive) and oh so accommodating. Tasteful touches such as complimentary wi-fi and dry-cleaning was a beautiful thing to see. And toothpaste! Toothpaste! Yas! Sorry why do so many hotels flood their bathrooms with every toiletry going except one of THEE most essential? Missoni. We loved you for the toothpaste. Really. So thoughtful #LittleThingsMoment.

On leaving we were even gifted with chocolates. Hearts, obviously and completely won over.

“Pretty Little Things” was the name, and a pop-up mall of sorts was the game. Gorgeous boutiques selling the cutest of all sorts to a savvy crowd of Kuwait’s social media gurus, society ladies, cool dudes and yummy mummies over 3 days of retail happiness.

Green Bar was the only participating vendor from abroad, and well, as expected, everyone went a little crazy over the brand’s all natural beauty products. It’s not every day you come across a line of skin care made strictly for the purpose of skin caring - no crap included. Just like Cleopatra did.

The food.

Yes. Kuwait’s culinary delight fully deserves a section all unto itself. Let it be known, I detest what is franchised, mass-produced and horribly over-exposed, particularly when it comes to eating. So, Kuwait’s concepts in local dining wasn’t just a breath of fresh air, it was an ongoing breeze of deliciousness. Brilliant ideas in fresh taste bud joy thanks to Kuwaiti chefs…I love that. Applausing you. Again.

Unfortunately, we didn’t have the time to try everything, but we did bless one restaurant – twice. Pizzetta. For the salads, and the truffle based pizza. Oh and their leek chips. Forget it.

Greetings. I bear news. Exciting news, particularly if you're a fan of naturally beautiful skin, and especially if you live in Bahrain (this doesn't however exclude the rest of you — bear with me). Green Bar just launched its delectable Rosewater Collection. A first for the Middle East in differentiating fragrance profiles, this defining collection in perfumery presents the unique qualities in a cross-section of Middle Eastern rose variety — indeed, a regional rose-tinged adventure, that has never been profiled before.

As some of you already know, I'm a little obsessed with Green Bar's existing products, so when they hosted a first in many upcoming "Rosewater Mornings", this one being in Bahrain, I was more than ecstatic to show full support. We Want Peace's Kibera ambassador (and VERY talented guy), Mr. Slum.

Before Bahrain, was Nairobi. Lots took place, including the final touches to Juliani's upcoming single, Exponential Potential, alongside a special appearance by Vision 2030s Mugo Kibati. More activity surrounding We Want Peace's 595 campaign, in run up to Kenya's presidential elections, and attending my dear friend/big sister, Gina Din's birthday celebrations; one occasion to adoringly remember!

Rakhi love... received.

It was the little - and so very touching - elements that meant so much to me. Instead of presents, Gina had asked her nearest and dearest to scribe their memories with/of her on delightful little notes. She gave each and every guest a special Rakhi bracelet, and exuded the most sincere appreciation for friends and family throughout the memorable evening - which was, as a result, positively beautiful.

Parisian views.

Post Africa, the Arab world, love strings, peace campaigns and all things fantastically Green Bar, I'm now in Paris. Here for a dear friend's wedding, and very much looking forward to this evening's nuptial grandeur. In fact, as I sit in the Mandarin's nature filled foyer (not for long though, this disobedient European cold does not suit me), I contemplate a number of recent, and life-changing experiences. I won't go into them all, but outcomes include the utter appreciation of now. Just enjoy now. It is truly a privilege. Find balance in graft, and craft. The realisation that as a people, we must continue to cultivate.

It is in our nature to produce, and not continuously consume. Create and curate. Be awake, less distracted. We must cherish more of what is human, and less of what is material. Gratitude really is everything. Embracing those who love us, is fundamental. I knew a lot of this before, but I don't know if I practised it as well as one should. Excuse the stream of consciousness ending this month's column. It's a moment. A reminder. We all need it now and again. Au revoir for now, mon multiple cherie!

Love, Light and Flight.

In this month's edition of Bahrain's Grazia magazine (December '11), bougi founder Rozan Ahmed shares her thoughts on a recent (and harrowing) experience that almost put an end to her life.

However, in stark contrast to what was initially expected, the near fatal flying occasion has actually resulted in a completely opposite effect. Read on...

"A significant part of my working life has been spent in the air. Zipping through the clouds en route to another country, to meet clients, to execute projects, to close a deal, to work - constantly. Another airport, another check-in, another hotel, another plane. A blur of security checkpoints, passport control, luggage belts, take-away coffees and cabin crew. A carousel of sameness, of feeling impatient and waiting to get there, to go home, to go back, to be on time - hopefully.

Flying was part and parcel of my day to day, something I never really thought about. Like driving, hopping on a train, catching a cab. Such was my level of comfort with flying that I became a little smug amongst those who appeared fearful; irrational thoughts about flying had no place in my mind. “Oh stop, you’ll be fine,” I’d say, “It’s like getting on a bus, nothing to worry about”.

Then, in the ultimate eat-my-words moment, I came within minutes of dying in a plane crash. This story will no doubt over time, become my best anecdote, but for now it plays an integral (and enlightening) part of who I am, where I’m going, and how my life has changed.

Four hours into the six hour flight, and nearly everyone was asleep, myself included. It was early morning and I had drifted off. Suddenly, something jolted me awake and as I pulled myself upright, I head butted an oxygen mask dangling in front of my face. A pair of hands appeared and I realised that the passenger sitting beside me was gently placing the oxygen mask over my face, as he had already done with his own. He did this down to me staring at the mask, still, a little stunned, assuming this was some kind of bizarre dream. The high pitched shrieking coming from the PA system soon made me realise that this was definitely very real. “PUT YOUR MASKS ON, PUT THEM ON, PUT THEM ON NOW”, was being emitted over and over again in a terrified manner by the cabin crew supervisor. I felt a trickle of fear, and then in a matter of seconds it was gone, as the plane began to descend in a near-vertical nose dive to the sea below.

Seat-belt signs flashed. The cabin supervisor, still screaming. The curtain separating economy and business class had slid open and as I sat in the front row, I could see two air stewardesses, holding on to each other with tears streaming down their faces. Short ragged breaths and intermittent calls for calm came from the obviously shaken cabin supervisor, gripping the PA microphone a few feet behind them.

That cliché about seconds becoming hours is so very true. We were moving in slow motion. I turned my head to look at the woman sitting next to me; she was clutching her 4 year old son, trying to calm his nervous little body. “Something is going to happen; you remember I told you about heaven before? You’re going to go there now and I will be with you, there is nothing to be scared of”. I watched, listened, obscurely, as if this were all a film. And still, down we plunged, the interminable wait for impact. The speed of the descent was stomach wrenching. I felt like my insides had risen and were now stuck at the base of my throat. An American woman sitting across the aisle began to pray out loud, asking God to save us. She was so serene, so calm and unafraid. No one was screaming at this point, the only sound was a chorus of audible gasps as they clearly tried to come to terms with what was happening.

They say your life flashes before your eyes, and they’re right, whoever they are. In that moment, I began to think about the people I loved. Had I done enough for them? Did they know that I loved them? Have I fulfilled my duties? Have I made the right decisions? Places I had visited, childhood things, teenage memories, just a series of moments, in flash.

After what felt like hours, but was in effect 3 or 4 minutes, the plane stabilised. The shaken cabin supervisor came over the PA system again “Keep.… your... masks on. Keep them on.” A few moments later, the voice of the pilot: “We’re diverting to a nearby airport.” No offers of reassurance that everything was fine, because we all knew what had just happened, we had stared death in the face.

Afterwards, when we landed, everyone reacted differently. The man who had calmly placed the mask over my face minutes earlier was now yelling uncontrollably, “We’re alive, we’re alive!” People began to cry. Others just sat still, as they were, clearly in thought.

We waited in the terminal together for another flight. Some huddled with their children, others wandered aimlessly while many, like me, chose to be alone. I tried to force my brain to think about the fact that I was getting on another aircraft but it wouldn’t cooperate. There was no fear, just waves of realisation. I started to feel overwhelmingly grateful. I wanted to cherish the people I loved; to live my life better than I had been before. I thought about a friend who was getting married in Paris. I wasn’t going as I had decided I was too busy with work. When we arrived at our original destination, I immediately booked flights to Paris. How could I not go? How could I have thought about work, over a dear friend’s wedding?

The weeks following the near fatal flight have presented an awakened approach to all things life. I no longer want to spend hours whiling away time over a computer, always working, sourcing new clients, planning business trips, and so on. For the first time in a long time, I'm improving my balance. There is work, but there must be play. My appreciation for life, family and good friends has increased dramatically. Time is, sincerely precious. Little things mean so much more, and despite always having an attitude of gratitude, I can't begin to describe how much more thankful I have become. I’m suddenly, truly, available, "in the moment", more in control, less fearful. Sleeping easier, loving harder, working thoroughly, and (imperatively) having fun.

Count your blessings, realise that all the petty elements are just that, petty. Follow an operation based on appreciation, particularly towards those who love you...and please, thank them, thank God - always. That's really all there is to it.

For me, it was all about the following:

1. First of all. David Webb. Everything. Everything. Blew my mind.

Not sure whether he was channelling Africa's tribal colours, or a dancehall rave.

Either way, spot on. So stunningly, spot on.

So. I was in Kenya, then Bahrain, then Dubai, then Abu Dhabi. And now, I'm back. In Kenya...again. Must be something in the air.

Bahrain was Bahrain. Always a joy. Stocked up on Green Bar, the Kingdom's beauty secret, revealed. And oh the new rosewater collection, a Middle Eastern blend of Turkey, Oman and Morocco. I can't. My skin's just too excited. Dubai...and as I'm absolutely certain you already know, Kim Kardashian. Oh. My. Wow. She visited with her mother to open a milkshake store, and Dubai, simply, lost its mind. A media frenzy of disproportionate levels. A town, gone wild. Then she left, and a rather hilarious blame game of hypocrisy began to ensue.

I don't know the girl personally, but my observations are as follows: She's...pretty. Polite. More of a forced icon, rather than one who's genuinely made a difference in the world. She probably has no idea why such a large part of the material world's so obsessed with her either. But hey, it is. She's enjoying it...fully taking advantage of the moment...making as much money as possible.

Kim clearly relies on her mother, a lot, who I had met with at the Atlantis (t'was my first time there too - can someone tell me what that ceiling's about? Bit ghoulish). Now, Mama Kris knows how to utilise an opportunity. ANY opportunity. Credit is due. Following their departure, a rather confused Emirati designer (so it would seem) decided to go "ethical" on us after her fashion label was rejected by Kim. Scores of tweets excitedly showing love to the Kardashians prior to their Dubai arrival were promptly deleted from the label's twitter account when Kim and Kris chose NOT to support the brand. Then, suddenly, a holy lash out? Based on morality? Darlings. Please. Excuse me as I continuously LOL.

Kim. Her mama. And a couple of milkshakes.

It's not Kim's fault the UAE's media houses seem to support Western talent far, far more than they do locally based creatives. That's the UAE's problem. If you don't like it, do something about it. This is nothing new. Dubai can never truly be celebrated if it continues to primarily idolise those elsewhere. Don't blame Kim for that.

Way I see it, if anyone believes media support for Kim was far-fetched, then write to your editors, your newsrooms. Demand better coverage of truly inspirational homegrown talent (I can name a few right now). Support one another. Point at the good. Eradicate the bad. Respect genuine opinion. Highlight the contradictions (don't ignore them, that's how they manifest). Praise the locally gifted. Oh...and less of the jealousy. Large up security. Increase creativity. It may also help if your discrepancies are made clear before the fact, not after? Onto the next one.

Abu Dhabi. The film festival. And Tamara Al Gabbani's usual rocking of the red carpet was particularly memorable this year due to her shunning of the typical gown. Laced in her love for local designers, Tamara graced the ADFF opening night in fine colour blocking style. The Palestyle turquoise clutch, a soon to be mine.

As much as we would have loved to stay for the opening movie, Janet Jackson was performing close by. An obvious no brainer, off to Yas, we go. First off, the simplicity. Jeans and a T-shirt. From start to finish. Talent like that needs no gaga-esque cosmetics. She kicked off the show with the greats, which made me VERY happy. "That's the way love goes", "Pleasure principle" and "What have you dont for me lately?". Perfect.

The dancing. In a beautifully heartbreaking way, Janet bears the majestic excellence of her beloved late brother. Naturally flawless. Everything these newbies can only wish they were. Sidebar: She said the words "Abu Dhabi" and "Insha'Allah" a little too perfectly. This probably has something to do with her recently acquainted Qatari beau. Love that.

Kenya's Juliani and Vision 2030's Mugo Kibati, on location

Onto Kenya, and Vision 2030's Mugo Kibati joined forces with the country's "hottest musical property", Juliani, on the execution of a rather monumental collaboration I'm oh so very proud of - celebrating the country's "exponential potential". Indeed, another mark, made. The opening sequence to Juliani's forthcoming bomb of a song was filmed at the Sankara hotel, a boardroom "boss" feel, if you will, and features another favorite cultural king of mine, Boniface Mwangi. S/o to all the Sankara team for so wonderfully cooperating, as they always do. Merci, a lot.

We Want Peace: The message continues

Grassroots efforts continue beautifully with We Want Peace, as we announce Kibera's #WWP ambassador, Slum Dawg. The young man has taken it upon himself to run a series of peace orientated meetings in his hometown of Kibera, one of Africa's largest "settlements", or more familiarly, slums (but I *really* don't like that word). There's independently initiated events ongoing in the area of Dandora too. Indeed, the message spreads. The vision, the dream, the reality, the music - as core. Watch out for the future.

He's dead. Police are still investigating why. Foul play not suspected.

When the 911 call was made, Mr. Big Stuff was at home, conscious apparently, speaking too. He then passed away in hospital. Our condolences to his loved ones, especially his daughter, who he absolutely cherished.

Heavy D was a man quite obviously - and all about - what is good, positive, love.

Not a bad word ever said about him. Ever.

"I sit down at the Sankara hotel business lounge eagerly waiting for the lady who has had the chance to interact with prominent personalities from all over the world. She has rubbed shoulders with every who’s who – from celebrities to prominent politicians and wealthy businessmen/women.

Rozan Ahmed, an internationally renowned public relations consultant, walks into the lounge, smiling and speaking in her husky voice. She comes across as the girl next door – quite friendly. Apart from being a PR genius, Rozan is also a peace advocate/activist and is currently behind a number of successful campaigns, one of which is We Want Peace (WWP), spearheaded by Emmanuel Jal - an internationally popular musician and former child soldier from Southern Sudan (she's also his publicist!). The launching music video for WWP had messages from various well-known personalities. “Alicia Keys opens it, followed by George Clooney, Kofi Annan, Richard Branson and many more. The support we received for We Want Peace was high level and global, as well as grass roots, and local...exactly how we like to play it.”

When we meet for this interview, Rozan and Jal have just returned from The Hague, following an invitation from the International Criminal Court (ICC) to take part in a symposium focused on the issue of child soldiers, as well as witness the closing statements of the Labunga trial. After the trial, a "Cinema For Peace" gala dinner was held, during which Jal performed before Ocampo himself and other former child soldiers. “We were seated next to Angelina Jolie, who came along in support” says Rozan...all in a day’s work for her.

Only aged 30, the PR guru’s journey started when she was just 16 years old in the UK. “Growing up I had no idea what I wanted to do. All I knew was that I loved music, but I didn’t know how to go about turning that passion into a career. When I was 16 I heard on the radio that BMG Entertainment (now Sony Universal) was looking for street team members for P. Diddy. I walked into their offices, talked my way into the promotions department, lied about my age (they wanted 18 years and above) and got the gig. The work basically involved distributing fliers outside clubs, hanging posters in the streets and accompanying artists to events. Indeed, not glamorous! My first job was with Tyrese. He gave me a great recommendation by telling the head of promotions that I was good at what I did, and so should be retained despite being only 16!”

Rozan did carry on doing her thing as a street team member while simultaneously attending school for her Media & Communications degree at Greenwich University, and writing articles as a freelance music journalist. When she graduated in 2002, at only 21, she was offered the job of deputy editor with RWD (Rewind) magazine. “At the time it was a pocket-sized music & lifestyle based title, very underground, but within 18 months we had grown to become the biggest and strongest in our field. I utilised my contacts left, right and centre and did everything I possibly could to make RWD work. We were a small and dedicated team, pretty much family considering how much time we spent together. All of us, literally, did everything!”.

The peak for Rozan was when she was asked to work closely with the Princes’ Trust, facilitated by Prince Charles. This was for the first urban music festival in the UK back in 2004; it was a historic event as it was the first time that British Black music was put on equal footing with that of the USA; it was where Alicia Keys shared the stage with Jamelia and Jay Z with Dizzie Rascal. “My idea was to see these artists on the same stage, on equal par, not having one rely on the other and to appreciate the differing sounds. It was a great success.”

So how exactly did the lady behind great entertainment become a peace activist? “Well, after working with and within so much of the higher profile, I wondered what more I could do. I started developing an interest in politics, humanitarianism, and people’s perceptions of world issues. I wanted to better understand these issues, for example, why Africa remains poor despite literally bursting with resources; why Islam, as a faith, was being targeted for the destruction of the twin towers when only a few individuals were responsible. How religion, in all its forms, is becoming institutionalised, almost? I basically started developing an interest in the more holistic, globally inclined, psychological and socially shaping aspects of PR.”

That is how Rozan left the UK for Sudan in 2005. Her new job title was Public Information officer with the United Nations. “Our mandate for Sudan was to monitor the implementation of the comprehensive peace agreement between the North and South. My role was to desensitise the public when it came to information, protocols and generally what we needed to do as a people to make sure the agreement was implemented.” To mark the celebrations of one year of the peace agreement, Rozan brought together musicians to celebrate the event in style. “Music is a critical tool in unity, peace and communication, particularly when it comes to young people. I brought in Emmanuel Jal (Southern Sudan) and Abdel Gadir Salim (Northern Sudan) – and put them on stage before a youthful audience as a musical symbol of unity between the two sides...obviously the recent split has broken my heart!"

Although she was born and raised in the UK, Rozan had already visited Sudan on several occasions. “The only thing I found difficult about working in Africa was seeing all sides of the social scale in one place – from incredible wealth to absolute poverty within 5 minutes of each other; that was a little traumatising.”

Rozan worked with the UN for four years before deciding to go independent. “I wanted to see how I could merge all my passions into one consultancy, from politics, to music, to humanitarian efforts and education. I wanted to work with people of equal tenacity, and only with brands I strictly believed in. Working at the UN was an unforgettable experience, and one I'd love to go back to, but there's also a lot of bureaucracy, I needed a bigger sense of freedom creatively”. This was the motivation that saw the setting up of rozanahmed.com and bougi in 2008, in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

How exactly did she settle on Bahrain as her new station? “I visited Bahrain once for the Formula One and just fell in love with the place. I was also intrigued because Michael Jackson lived there. Bahrain is a such a soulful little island, quiet, generous, great food, I could go on...” quips Rozan.

As any businessperson will attest, it was scary starting off on her own, but it was something she had to do. “The fact that there was no one but myself to direct me on this solo path was a little overwhelming. It was difficult to comprehend that everything that happens, henceforth, was down to just me. That can bring a lot of pressure. Up until today, I struggle with decision making! Other than that it’s been an incredible journey.” She has represented many clients, and organised a number of great events both in and out of Bahrain. "The consultancy bases itself on fundamental services within public relations. I also wanted to align entertainment, my writing - and love for music, of course - so I started bougi, a popular network for people both aspirational and inspirational, encompassing all social media and special events".

Some of the people she's worked with include Jay-Z, Beyonce, Akala, Estelle, Emmanuel Jal and, from Kenya, Juliani. She was the one behind the launch of Juliani’s latest album, Pulpit Kwa Street, which took over Nairobi's City Hall Way back in August of this year, in unforgettable fashion. Juliani is another prominent face of We Want Peace, alongside Jal. The campaign in Kenya is all about rallying, lobbying and speaking to members of the public, politicians and the corporate world, sharing a vision of peace, unity and enlightenment with them all. “We take a holistic approach to this: if people are fighting, why are they fighting and who gave them the guns? We want to open hearts and minds into understanding what stops peace, and what can then bring peace, through a series of meetings, shows and other planned interactive activity”.

Juliani was picked for this project because "it works...he's very active when it comes to social development, and thoroughly believes in inspiring the youth. We're all shared on our outlooks and that's what brings us together, naturally”. Rozan was also pivotal in shaping Juliani's successful "Kama Si Sisi" music summits across Kenya. “We worked with young talent across all 6 major districts, recording a song and shooting a video all in one day, whilst working closely with the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) in delivering key messages on freedom of information.”

How did she end up in Kenya in the first place? “We Want Peace started off as a global campaign in December 2010, focusing on the referendum in Southern Sudan. Following a peaceful referendum, Jal came up with the idea of coming to Kenya, honing in on issues of good governance and peace building in run up to the country's elections in 2012."

With a peaceful election in mind, WWP established an SMS line, 595, to generate one million Kenyans, from all walks of life, to pledge for peace. A pledge that they will make themselves responsible for sustaining an environment of peace under all circumstances. It is a pledge toward accountability and positivity, at all times. "Anti-tribalism is key, and as part of the campaign we've recorded a song featuring Jal and Juliani, and even have a few politicians and other influential figures rapping, among them Martha Karua, William Ruto, Jimnah Mbaru and more. We received some initial criticism for including Ruto, but there's no regrets, because if he is in a position to say to his people, “We want peace” and they listen, then that is immediately a step in the right direction. We’ve also met with Prime Minister Raila Odinga who is very supportive of our efforts."

Working between the Middle East, East Africa and Europe, what is the most any client has spent on a gig? “There is this client of mine, a wealthy businessman from the Gulf, who spent $250,000, (about Ksh23 million) in one night”. Wow. Her advice to anyone who wants to venture into PR? “Prepare yourself. It’s not easy. Build your connections and abide fully by the iceberg principle – what people actually see is the tip of the iceberg, but there's a massive amount of work that's always put in, a foundation that has to be built. This means a continuous enhancement of your skills, builidng and maintaining relationships, long (random) hours, and a constant professionalism.” Her last words to Kenyans, especially in run up to the elections next year: “Exercise the trickle-down effect. Take this campaign into your own hands and do what you need to do to maintain a positive environment within your communities. Take responsibility for Kenya, protect Kenya, and be that positive role model you would like for others to become”.

In Her Own Words...

Rozan’s dad is a paediatrician and her mum would have been a diplomat had she not been busy raising her kids.

She is the first of four children, with a sister in New York and two brothers in London.

She's a workaholic and tends to be in a different country every month or so.

She always feels the need to settle down whenever she comes to Nairobi and wouldn’t mind a Kenyan husband.

She thinks Angelina Jolie is super intelligent and Beyoncé is polite, shy and cute.

Rozan would love to have up 4 or 5 kids in the future.

Her favourite music is "everything soulful, and older".

She's Muslim and finds balance in her life by praying. She also practises yoga.

Her favourite food is all forms of Thai salad.

bougi founder, Rozan Ahmed, first exposed her love for writing back in 2001 as Deputy Editor for the UK's RWD magazine. Once upon a time, an underground title, once following an underground scene, once called garage, or grime, or urban music, or "woducallit", as so perfectly put by the once underground artist, Wiley.

Soon enough, RWD became the UK's biggest, baddest, boldest music & lifestyle publication, ever - for a sound/way of life/youth invasion that literally gave the entertainment industry no choice but to embrace it.

On celebrating RWD's 10th birthday this year, Rozan made a return appearance, and it went a little something like this...

In honor of our first double figured birthday, we call in one of RWD's originators. The first in so many things urban music, an innovator in propelling the sound and its talent to what it is today. 1Xtra even called her "the woman who can" and, well, that she is. Rozan Ahmed returns, with an extended rant, on reality TV.

At first, the whole joke over watching general imbeciles do nothing with their lives except generate drama, shame up their straying partners, discuss nothing of any real validity, act a fool - publicly, and/or eat animal testicles as part of a "wild adventure" was, admittedly, quite funny ("Cheaters" was my fave - just legendary, wasn't it). However, as with many entities sadly labelled as today's of form of entertainment, reality TV has taken a significant side-step, toward ridiculous.

I mean, the VMA's? As in, Video Music Awards. When was the last time you saw a music video on MTV? (I'm just saying), how many more asses have to die before we suddenly realise, "hmm...maybe we shouldn't support such utter stupidity?" Could there be any more considerably dim "wives" we DON'T know about? Surely we've had enough of Kim Kardashian's derriere..surely. And what's so wonderful about marrying a man 6 months after meeting him? Other than making an alleged $17.6 million off the wedding of course - yes. She made, that much.

Are we honestly that fascinated about a bunch of LA based uncultured children who REALLY seem to like the word, "like"? How many times can an audience appreciate seeing obese people shake their oversized boo-tays whilst crying to some man-beast of a woman? WHO is Kendra? Do we care? I would really like to know, who...cares.

What's real about reality TV anyway. One has to wonder if it's becoming some kind of warped televised tool to actually distort reality. It's all good, now and then, to feed into that "peeping Tom" syndrome so many of us humans possess, but encouraging unethical behaviour, as well as numbing minds by outrageously drowning all forms of smart with this repeated facade of silliness, is quite the different drama.

As a people, I'd like to believe we crave creativity. Innately, our spirits appreciate intelligent nourishment. Therefore, I also believe that a continued projection of fickle nonsense is literally and sincerely dangerous - as times have obviously shown. I'm pretty sure plenty of the youths raising hellfire in London recently did so out of sheer, unadulterated, utterly frustrated boredom. An uninspired brain is as good as a crazed one.

And yea, erm, just how 'real' can one be with a camera shoved in their face? How about we stick to improving and enlightening the quality of our own lives. Rest assured, there's nothing realer than that.

The Kim Conundrum.

Some bullet pointed thoughts on Kim Kardashian's recent visit to the glossy emirate, and the following online dramas that ensued.

She visited with her mother to open a milkshake store. Dubai lost its mind. A media frenzy of disproportionate levels. A town, gone wild.

Then, she left. The blame game of hypocrisy, begins.

1. I don't know the girl personally, but my observations are as follows: She's...pretty. Polite. More of a forced icon, rather than one who's genuinely made a difference in the world. She probably has no idea why such a large part of the material world's so obsessed with her either. But hey, it is. She's enjoying it...fully taking advantage of the moment...making as much money as possible.

2. Kim clearly relies on her mother, a lot, who I had met with at the Atlantis (t'was my first time there too - can someone tell me what that ceiling's about? Bit ghoulish).

3. Mama Kris knows how to utilise an opportunity. ANY opportunity. Credit is due.

4. Now, the press gush. Who's to blame? Kim? Errr. No.

It's not Kim's fault the UAE's media houses seem to support Western talent far, far more than they do locally based creatives. That's the UAE's problem. If you don't like it, do something about it. This is nothing new. Dubai can never truly be celebrated if it continues to primarily celebrate those elsewhere. Don't blame Kim for that.

5. So she made a sex tape. Not cool. But Paris did too. Eva Longoria's history isn't fabulous either. Neither are some elements of Dubai's nightlife. Once again. Don't blame Kim for that. Unless you have some kind of personal gripe, with her?

6. Dubai mall issues courtesy cards to women who wear skirts slightly above the knee. 2 days ago Dubai mall celebrated a woman who many have seen naked. "Isn't it ironic...don't you think?"

So you see, the levels of hypocrisy are, unfortunately, everywhere.

7. A rather confused Emirati designer (so it would seem) decided to go ethical on us after her fashion label was rejected by Kim. Scores of tweets excitedly showing love to the Kardashians prior to their Dubai arrival were promptly deleted from the label's twitter account when Kim and Kris chose NOT to support the brand. Then, suddenly, a holy lash out? Based on morality? Darlings. Please. Excuse me as I continuously LOL.

8. Let us be clear, the confused hypocrisy that embodies the likes of some, is actually a much wider dilemma - personified.

Remember, when you point the finger, 3 more point back at you.

9. If, in your opinion, media support for Kim was far-fetched, then write to your editors, your newsrooms. Demand better coverage of truly inspirational homegrown talent (I can name a few right now). Support one another. Point at the good. Eradicate the bad. Respect genuine opinion. Highlight the contradictions (don't ignore them, that's how they manifest). Praise the locally gifted. Oh...and less of the jealousy. Large up security. Increase creativity.

May also help if your discrepancies are made clear before the fact, not after?

10. Finally, values, if not consistent, aren't values at all. I'm just saying.

We live in a crazy world. We can either let it be crazy. Or we can do something [positive] about it. That doesn't include being late with [contradictory] complaints.

Be good. Be great. Be consistent. That's all there is to it.

She was in Abu Dhabi. Yas island. Flash (you did good).

I mean, it's Ms. Jackson. There's nothing to prove really is there. Not much to say either.

Let's stick to the highlights shall we, because it was all obviously brilliant.

First off, the simplicity. Jeans and a T-shirt. From start to finish. Talent like that needs no gaga-esque cosmetics.

She kicked off the show with the greats, which made me *very* happy. "That's the way love goes" was dedicated to Abu Dhabi, followed by "Pleasure principle" and "What have you dont for me lately?". Perfect.

The dancing. In a beautifully heartbreaking way, Janet bears the majestic excellence of her beloved late brother. Naturally flawless. Everything these young guns can only wish they were.

The "slow" segment required a man by my side, to be fair. But thanks to the easy "jam sesh" vibe, the eclectic audience of true music appreciators, the air of relaxation, everyone seemed to be in their own particular element/zone/memoir/moment. Comfortable. Singing along. Just loving.

The finale. Dedicated to the King. Pictures of her and her brother on loop while she so quaintly performed "Scream". An anthem for the world's current #occupying behaviour, in my view. Listen again, to the relevance.

She followed with "Rhythm Nation", as if to send a subtle (but clear) message of defiance. I got it. Loud and clear. Let's hope more and more of the awakening globe does too.

Janet's final words. "My brother always loved this part of this world. He really did. He talked about you guys all the time. Thank you Abu Dhabi. Thank you for the love you continue to give to all my family. Insha'Allah I'll be seeing you again".

So much to go over. So little time. First off, Bahrain. A home to many, from all walks of life, who I'd like to think very much LOVE this Kingdom. As such, it is an all encompassing responsibility to put an end to this fiasco, unify and work together towards building a better Bahrain...isn't it? I mean, despite my looking into this reoccurring issue (at significant length, and depth) I still don't know why certain individuals continue to cause self- damage. Where is the logic? Shouldn't we be thankful that Bahrain has one of the finest Governmental set-ups this world has to offer? Should you need any proof of this, ask Troy Davis's family. Google, incase you don't know. Can we please just take a moment and realise the necessity for peace. Please. PLEASE (!). Without it, no one will prosper.

So. Kenya's feature length episode comes to an end next week, so too has Kenyans For Kenya, a wonderful Red Cross initiative which raised almost one billion Kshs for food relief in Turkana. Most importantly, Kenyans For Kenya sparked a spiritual sense of unity amongst the country's citizens that was, simply, thrilling. I pray this remains in the country I've grown to love, and spreads itself across Africa — and the rest of the world, for that matter. Gina Din, sincere friend, face and force behind what spread like a glorious epidemic across the giving nature of Kenyans, said nothing has fulfilled her more than to see her country's people come together, for each other. Full praise, fully due.

We Want Peace (WWP) was recently hailed as "Kenya's biggest social charge toward positive change" (excellent). The campaign, spearheaded by international superstar, Emmanuel Jal, works to inspire public responsibility and accountability, to inspire minds and sustain a peaceful environment in the run up to the country's presidential elections. "2007 can never happen again, it's time to bring about meaningful, long- term change...We want to invigorate public action into independently protecting their communities, realising an individual duty to maintain peace, which then of course leads to good development," said Emmanuel.

Alongside a number of key cultural influencers, leaders and organisations, we continue to work tirelessly in rallying one million Kenyans for peace through the 595 Pledge; an SMS rally and petition of commitment where one million Kenyans will promise to work, inspire and lead the change, for a better Kenya. Yes, I know, a lot of work.

Back to the Middle East, and just incase you've been hiding in an isolated cave somewhere, Dubai's leading lady, Tamara Al Gabbani, launched her debut Goddess collection back in May 2011, to rave reviews, internationally — naturally. So successful was the launch of Tamara's Grecian inspired fashion line, that copies of the sought after attire started appearing both in Dubai and London — love that. Equally love that one of Tamara's pieces was recently named after yours truly too. I'm told the gold sequins were very "Rozan", and so, there you go. En route to the Emirate.

Still on the "Dubai" tip, I hear Kim Kardashian's coming — and that the entire emirate has kind of very radically lost its mind. Relax. The Kardashian newly-wed will arrive in Dubai on 13 October, along with managing mummy, Kris Jenner. They're opening a new store that makes the world's most expensive milkshakes. Million dollar milkshakes, in fact. Oh how I look forward to discovering its ingredients.

Next door, and Abu Dhabi will be hosting its annual Film Festival from October 12 to 22. I'll be there. I'll also be in Bahrain, Sudan, Washington DC and New York City, in the space of one month. Pray for me.

OK, so I’m pretty sure the editors at Ohlala! utterly despise my existence (I'm...so...sorry); this would primarily be due to my continued lack of timing. The column, in which you’re so obviously enjoyably reading, has once again been submitted late. I assure you (I really do), it's not my fault.

Currently, I’m writing this on my blackberry, whilst unexpectedly sitting in the International Criminal Court. In the Hague. In Holland. Post landing from Kenya, a few hours ago. I did sincerely plan on writing this on the plane, but then, I fell asleep, after not sleeping for almost two days. Surely, you understand the constrained schedule that is my life. I'm sorry. Again.

Back to the ICC, and Luis Moreno Ocampo, the Prosecutor, invited a number of guests to a symposium focused on the issue of child soldiers, prior to attending the closing statements of the Labunga trial. I came along with Emmanuel Jal, the renowned artist, author, activist and former child soldier from Southern Sudan, as part of the global We Want Peace campaign. We were also honoured to participate at the Cinema For Peace Gala, a culminating dinner to the day’s focus on “heart” - bringing an element of emotion to the need for peace, and banning the use of child soldiers worldwide.

Angelina Jolie, amongst other amazing individuals, was also there to witness ICC history. And yes, it’s official. I like her. A lot. We spent the afternoon discussing world issues, sharing baby pictures (well, hers, as I have none - wail) and exchanging likes on LV bags, naturally. Don’t ever assume she’s another one of those “brown baby owning look how humanitarian I am” celebrities. She knows her stuff, and represents correctly.

Prior to the Hague, was Kenya, and Nairobi's now counted as a capital “conquered”. Why? Because no-one’s managed to shut down one of its busy city’s streets, execute an LP launch of the highest order, merge chic, corporate, local and global into one vicinity of musical appreciation, and officially crown an artist called Juliani, as Kenya’s lyrical King.

His sophomore LP, Pulpit Kwa Street, was debuted to the masses with a spectacular stage show on Nairobi’s City Hall Way. Had I not been working, I too would have enjoyed what can only be described as a unique delivery of hip-hop, love, positivity and education. Oh. And if you’re yet to hear what is my favourite track off the LP, and his newly released second single, Exponential Potential, please do. It is exactly what it says on the tin.

A lot of overt instability I feel...don't you? The youth are those I feel sorry for most. It's a considerable amount to deal with. As adults, it's become a desperate time for us to direct positively, and accordingly. Either that, or you'll definitely find me raising my kids in a cottage in Negril, or some remote African hut somewhere, far, far away.

Hello. I'm in Africa (smile). As mentioned last month, all worldly travels have taken a thankful pause over the summer, as my focus tunes back into the fulfilling campaign work that is We Want Peace. Lots going on, with significant leaps — and bounds — in terms of influential leadership lending a musical hand, as well targeting hearts & mind, first. I'll explain.

East Africa's PR Guru, Gina Din, was the latest leading personality to grace the recording studio with We Want Peace's double force in music, Emmanuel Jal and Juliani. They are the bonafide stars behind the campaign's latest phase, which focuses on the developmentally stifling issue of tribalism. And so, Gina rapped (!) alongside them - and did a fab job with it too.

Next in the booth, was none other than Kenya's King of prime time television, Jeff Koinange, who did in fact incorporate his infamous ''smoking'' catchphrase into the eagerly anticipated anthem. Indeed, all very exciting.

Finally, there was the Honorable William Ruto, otherwise known as ''The King of the Rift'', who by the way, was an MC-ing natural. His association caused quite the stir among Kenya's public audience, being an Ocampo 6 member and all. But let's take a moment to understand what this crucial initiative's actually about...

Peace requires unification. Therefore, a fundamental objective within We Want Peace is to, well, you know... unite? Witnessing leadership (from across the board) coming together for the first time and physically/vocally/publicly pledging their allegiance to ensure peaceful elections in 2012, is always a good thing.

There's more to come, including an SMS petition for submission to Government, calling on 1 MILLION young minds (and more) to responsibly protect their country against a repeat of 2007's post election violence. TEXT your pledges and commitments to 595, like now. Tell us your thoughts, quotes, what peace means to you and what exactly you plan on doing to spread positive, peaceful and inspirational energy across your community.

Also in the works: A series of [very] empowering cross-country youth meetings, alongside Picha Mtaani's Boniface Mwangi. Live radio broadcasts, to include performances, debates, prizes and all sorts (this will be a first for Kenya, just by the way). Gatwich Festival. And then some. We've also just been nominated 'Best online campaign' by Kenya's social media club. Why thanks. It's just the beginning.

In the midst of We Want Peace work, another monumental moment in history took place in my home country of Sudan. The country split in two, and the Republic of South Sudan was born. To be honest my emotions remain a mix of sadness and relief. It's hard to understand what is effectively a part-time liberation. It's difficult to be jubilent when the rest of the country still suffers the pain of an existing problem. I can't really celebrate when freedom fighters everywhere (who also fought for the now ''free state'') remain terrorised. Saying that, seeing the faces of so many happy people in Juba was unforgettable, and for that, I'm grateful. Congratulations.

Not impressed with the lack of Moroccan baths in Nairobi, just by the way. BIG fan of Tribe Hotel's Sunday brunch. Overly enjoying Sankara's pad thai. Always a pleasure coming across actual baboons now and again. There's something addictive in Seven's butternut squash. Randomly, LOVE Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore's office desk. No, you'll still never see me on a ''safari''. Enjoyed feeling so tiny amidst the big friendly Nubian giants...and, you might as well call me Popeye with the *mass* amounts of spinach I'm consuming lately. What do Kenyans put in it exactly? Why is it so tasty here?

Finally, I dedicate this month's column to the legend that lives: Nelson Mandela. A beacon of light to so many across the planet, all he wanted on his recent 93rd birthday was for each one of us to dedicate 67 minutes towards supporting our community. I say, let's make it a week.

Monday 5 September 2011: EMMANUEL JAL, JULIANI & BONIFACE MWANGI CHARGE A POSITIVE CHANGE IN KENYAN YOUTH, THROUGH TARGETTING HEARTS & MINDS.

In a collective effort to engage and empower youth across Kenya, Emmanuel Jal, world renowned artist, actor, author and activist, Juliani, Kenya's most inspiring & socially conscious lyricist, and award-winning photo-activist Boniface Mwangi held what was a first in a series of youth meetings in the country's hip hop capital of Dandora on Sunday 4 September 2011.

Dedicated to positive social change, Emmanuel Jal's 'We Want Peace' campaign, Juliani's 'Kama Si Sisi' (‘If not us, then who?’) initiative and Boniface Mwangi's Niko Tuko, Kenya Ni Kwetu (‘I am, we are -Kenya is our home’) movement came together on this momentous move of inspiration to engage, discuss and enlighten on the holistic elements of peace, reconciliation and development in Kenya.

Nairobi based media, influential youth, Kenyan Hip hop pioneers Mau Mau and Robah of ‘Kalamashaka’ joined Emmanuel, Boniface and Juliani on a tour of Kenya's biggest dumping site, as entrepreneurial locals broke down how they profit off the materials we waste, eat what the rest of us have thrown away, and use what limited resources they have to make a living.

On arrival at the Mau Mau studio, Kenya's hip hop birthplace, Juliani welcomed and hosted all those in attendance to his hometown, while Boniface Mwangi screened Picha Mtaani’s touching ‘Heal the nation’ documentary, focused on the tragedy that befell Kenyans after the 2007 December elections.

Thought provoking conversation ensued, with a generic understanding on the urgent need to forge new mind-sets across Kenya, adopting and embracing a culture of responsibility, accountability and change. ‘This is a project of champions’ said Juliani, ‘we will lead the realisation in responsible living, education and work’. ‘Dependency as a way of thinking has to stop’ continued Emmanuel Jal, ‘2007 can never happen again, it's time to bring about meaningful, long-term change’, expressed Boniface Mwangi.

Following what was a historic discussion, documented on the social network, twitter, and triggering further debate online, the We Want Peace 'Commitment to Peace' pledge, via the SMS 595 was officially launched by Emmanuel Jal and Juliani.

‘We recorded an anthem soon to be released for next year's elections, focused on anti-tribalism and featuring a number of influential people in politics, the corporate world and entertainment...As of now, we are rallying the 595 army, 1 million Kenyans for peace, who will create a positive energy throughout the country in run up to the elections, they will protect Kenya responsibly and become inspiring leaders in their own communities" said Emmanuel Jal. "By texting 595, you have made a promise, through your quote, statement or thoughts, you've made a solid commitment, we want to know what you're doing to ensure peace and development in Kenya...All 1 million submissions - if not more - will then be handed by Emmanuel and I to the Government" said Juliani.

Emmanuel Jal, Juliani and Boniface Mwangi agreed to mobilise the young people of Kenya to work together towards sustainable development, peace and prosperity: a patriotic social movement that will amplify the voice of a new generation.

Similar sessions of inspiration raising awareness on self-responsibility, positive action and long term change will soon be held in Kibera, Mathare and other parts of Kenya.

Glamorous, well spoken, a natural thinker with a knack for the market – she has it all! Jack Taylor sat down with PR guru turned motivational personality, Rozan Ahmed.

Where are you from? And what does your family do?
Originally I'm from Sudan. A Nubian, with pharaohs for ancestors - which explains my regal tendencies. British born, and London bred - which explains my tenacity. My father's a doctor, very scientific, while my mother represents the diplomatic side of my family. She's a thinker, as am I. I'm still waiting to become as diplomatic as her though.

When did you first notice a passion for public relations?
Probably at the age of 21. I was a journalist at the time and found myself always doing much more than writing. I was building ideas, and connecting dots, people with brands and brands with events. It was more like a movement, I guess. I found my vision much bigger than my role, and discovered public relations as a medium to exercise all of my skills, in journalism, building relationships, events, promotions, messaging, communications - it's a wonderful (and stressful) career for putting in everything!

How would you describe the PR & events scene in the Middle East?
It's amateur, unfortunately. Rather basic in terms of creativity but I feel that's primarily due to its infancy. The principles are there, and that's always a good start.

What clients do you work for in Bahrain and Dubai?
In Bahrain I worked very closely with the owners of L'Hotel in establishing the hospitality brand, which worked out beautifully. It's solidified its position as a boutique hotel of choice. It's quiet rise was well timed and eloquently introduced. Others include The Mobile Spa (the Kingdom's first mobile spa - literally!), Reem Al Khalifa's Green Bar, a range of naturally extravagant beauty treatments that I'm personally addicted to, and Dana Al Khalifa's Overdressed website - a vintage fashion haven of excellence. In Dubai I'm very proud to represent the fashion designer and actress Tamara Al Gabbani, who I recently debuted at the Cannes Film Festival. She is the gem of the UAE and I love watching her elevate into international stardom.

What’s the trickiest situation you have ever been in and what is the pinnacle of your career?
There's always 'situations', and they're all tricky! You just have soldier through, with grace and patience. There have also been many peaks. My pinnacle however hasn't happened just yet. It will, when I meet Oprah.

Familiarity. Unique appeal. Honesty.

You've represented a lot of celebrities and high-profile personalities. Who are some of the biggest clients you have worked with? And what’s the most memorable event you have organised?
Memorable clients include the United Nations, I loved every initiative whilst working with the organisation, from media facilitation and special events, to advocacy and campaign work. Justin Timberlake (simply for namesake!), Jay Z, for his general brilliance, Estelle, she's an old friend, so it's always a pleasure, and Emmanuel Jal - he's a constant inspiration.

From when you first started your business, how long did it take to make profit?
Approximately 7 months.

In every profession people are always advised to ensure they're equipped with the tools of the trade; what tools does a start-up PR professional need?
To be honest, I believe PR is a gift. You either have 'it', or you don't. A good PR business person will have a natural ''knack'' for creative thinking and educate themselves in perfecting it. They will think and act on the spot, have the wit and drive to multi-task, all the time! You need a sharp, creative, strategic brain, an opportunist approach and a social personality. They are the ultimate tools. Everything else is easily obtainable from a stationary shop.

What suggestions do you have for young PR practitioners who want to rise to a position of top-level management?
PR requires continuous study. You need to always be aware of your environment and who's winning the information battle. Just know that in PR, there is no patterned way to the top. There is no single one route. Stay observant, spot the trends, seek opportunities and push only what you believe in. Passion for what you represent is imperative.

I can imagine you’ve had the opportunity to travel all over the world, tell us about your favourite city and/or country. Any young backpacking stories you’d like to share?
I can't choose one particular city. I adore so many for different reasons. New York has an inexplicable energy that I crave sometimes. London's my love, as its home. I've developed a special relationship with Kenya. I'm so taken by its landscape, people, lifestyle. The food's great too. Bahrain's cosiness is addictive and the Italian coast is a dream - just a dream!

If you had enough money to retire right now, would you?
Absolutely. Then I'd have time to write my book, and have some babies.

Why should we hire you?
Because I care.

What kind of person would you refuse to work with?
Uninspiring, ego-centric, dull, boring, a lack of focus. They'd have to be on my level of motivation, morale and achievement for us to work together.

What motivates you to do your best on the job?
I motivate me!

How do you measure results?
It depends on the client request and the kind of project undertaken.

How does your work ethic make you different, and what’s your selling point when pitching to a new client?
My individual approach, scope, reach, understanding, foresight and dedication. I choose who I work with and so our client base is always small, concentrated and focused on messages that compliment one another. Honesty, reliability, education. I like to enlighten myself, and others, as I work. Rozan Ahmed and her team are fantastic pace-setters. We simply make it happen, with passion, and meaning, every time.

What are the three things you dislike about working in PR & events?
Long (quite often, never-ending hours), inflated egos (they pop up now and again), and having to deal with so many issues on a last-minute basis can sometimes be very, very draining!

Greetings, from the town of flashy, irritating faults, disguised foolishness and foul smells. Yep. After a whirlwind 6 weeks spread across Morocco, Cannes, Monaco, St. Tropez, Porto Fino and London, I'm back in the city otherwise known as the overtly glossy, Dubai.

Now, let's understand something. I can appreciate Dubai. It can be nice – sometimes. But, let's be honest, its teething problems (and general habit of attracting failures from across the globe) can significantly raise the blood pressure of any sound professional – bearing good taste. Saying that, I'm grateful for discovering a more humble circle of creative entrepreneurs during my regular visits here. Yes God, for blessing me with an aura that draws toward greatness, actively and helplessly rejecting foolery. As you can probably tell by now, this aura of mine is having to deal with a lot of rejections, whilst in Dubai. Sigh.

Anyhow. Rant over. And as we speak of greatness, I must thank the crew at Dubai's Okku Bar & Restaurant (my favourite culinary haven in the emirate) for their efforts in so graciously hosting our evening with Tamara Al Gabbani and Mohammed Al Turki. Mohammed was in town for a series of interviews, promoting his upcoming film projects back in Hollywood; both him and Tamara, fresh off their spectacular appearances at Cannes Film Festival this year, had lots to share with friends and invited guests, over what was a gorgeous gathering of Dubai's finest. More on that -- here.

Next, it was back to the beloved Bahrain, for five days of photo shoots (hence the lovely picture, you like?), meetings and memoirs. I'm pretty much convinced that Bahrain is pleasurably cursed, by the way. There's a strange attraction to the island that's really difficult to describe. An anxiousness takes over the soul after six to seven weeks of being away from Manama. Like a fix, you feel a sense of glorious relief once on Bahraini soil. I know I'm not the only one under this 'spell' of sorts. The research has been conducted, and I can positively conclude that the Bahrain vibe, despite recent turmoil, is addictive.

The eccentric nail: Once misunderstood, now completely adored.

Another addiction, recently developed, is nail art. Some of you may look at the above and think “Oooh, odd”, but that's only because it's new. I myself am a particular fan of the black/gold combinations, and obviously blown away by the leopard print/heart fusions. I shan't reveal the maestro behind my vibrant fingertips just yet, but I will tell you that every nail was beautifully hand painted – yes, painted, and that's key. Don't jump on this fantastic form of fashion artistry when Kim K does. By then, it'll be too late.

Breaking hearts: Estelle, Vanessa Amadi & Rozan Ahmed

Oh. Just in case you don't know, Estelle's back. Indeed, the beautiful British songstress returns to bless our hearing aids with some delectable loveliness. The single is a sure-fire summer smash, and it’s called "Break My Heart", featuring the man who's currently using my name illegally, Ricki Rozay. The video features a young and stunning Gentleman my friends and I are willing to break - up - over. His name's Omari Hardwick. You'll know exactly who I'm talking about when you see him. FIT.

So, with Dubai/Bahrain works nicely wrapped up, I now prepare for a return to Kenya. Summer has lots in store, with "We Want Peace" plans for upcoming promo across the country, a music video and a live radio broadcast to highlight the campaign's latest message of anti-tribalism.

Hi. This month, I write to you from a boat. In France. A lovely boat, and one that I don't want to leave. I'm not looking forward to normality's return you see. Waking up in a regular building. Air-conditioning - and not the ocean's natural breeze. Concrete - and not sea - as my waking view.

Sail away.

Yes I realise I sound obscenely spoiled right now, but this comes from a place of impressed escape. Really. The sea's a great place to focus. A sense of clarity, and idyllic escapism – with a team of servants – is such a wonderful state of 'being'. Anyhoo, back to life, as they say.

Portofino paradise.

The past seven days has seen me in Italy's picturesque town of Portofino (for some boutique shopping, and peace), Monte Carlo's Monaco (for food, and Jimmy's), the South of France's St Tropez (just because, and okay fine, also Barbarac), Eze (the views, and more food), Antibes (Hotel du Cap) and obviously Cannes – all over Cannes, in fact.

Why? Because this year's film festival saw what was the spectacular debut of Dubai's Tamara Al Gabbani. All the major red carpets were graced with the UAE's shining star, actress, fashion designer, and overall pioneer. At Naomi Campbell's Fashion For Relief show, Anna Dello Rosso personally requested one of Tamara's Grecian inspired crowns, recently showcased at the Dubai launch of her first and rather amazing collection. Roberta Armani loved the silver sequins at Sean Penn's Cinema For Peace Honorary Dinner, and Rosario Dawson was taken most positively by Tamara's hot pink number at Hotel du Cap's amFar extravaganza.

I liked the plate more than the food, tbh.

Eze gardens: Best kept in the world, apparently.

I must take a moment to congratulate my good friend Becki Fatemi of Rokstone Entertainment, Naomi Campbell and all the team for what was an excellent Fashion For Reliefshow and after-party. Another moment to especially thank the one and only Jeanette Calliva: 'the' live definition of all things amazing in the world of entertainment. A final moment to applaud whoever it was behind the interior set up of this year's amFAR gala. I'd like my wedding done the EXACT same way. Please and thanks.

Celebrating the Moroccan rose.

Prior to Europe was the mesmerising Morocco. Riyad is now a MUST in my future home. Argan oil has become a staple ingredient in all my home-made salads, as well as my face and essential hair treatments. Wait, before going all wide-eyed, argan oil is both cosmetically beneficial and deliciously edible. It's also only found in Morocco's Atlas mountains, where I purchased myself a near lifetime supply (it is, that good).

I had travelled to this North African slice of wonder along with Green Bar's Reem Al Khalifa, as part of her continued expedition on discovering the purest of ingredients in making all her naturally extravagant Green Bar products. Currently, her Damascus rose water has become a “cannot do without in my toiletry collection; in August 2011, she'll release the Moroccan version, and after seeing where it all comes from, first-hand, understanding the intricacies and 100% natural processing to which Reem personally abides by, I'm quite sure Green Bar will become a “can't do without” for most of us girls. And finally, bday times! Business and pleasure will always be merged during birthday month, and as always, it was stupendous. Kicking off with an intimate birthday gathering at Bahrain's Mirai restaurant, with close friends, contemporary beverages and a selection of new tasters to compliment, as prepared by my favourite Chef. Following on with mini-celebrations at Marrakech's Lotus Bar & Restaurant, Dubai's Okku, Canne's Villa Romano (temporarily set up during the festival), Eze's Golden Goat, Portofino's Splendido (I do like how that rhymes), Monaco's Rampoldi, and finally, London's Trailor Happiness – my Portabello den of retro perfection. I turned 30. T'is all - completely - justified. Until next month, count your blessings, and give your mum a kiss. Au revoir.

As well as fulfilling his dreams in film, Mohammed continues what is a family legacy in international philanthropy. He remains dedicated in his support of various charities including the Elton John Aids Foundation, amfar AIDS Research and many more.

Reem Al Khalifa travels to the rose fields of Ouarzazate, argan-oil stalls in the Atlas mountains, and Marrakech’s souks in search of the purest ingredients for her all-natural beauty company, Green Bar. Here's the story, first hand...

Day 1
''A real sense of rural in regal''
Late night arrival to what was a tiny small airport, with a vast sky. We flew to Casablanca and then on to our final destination of Ouarzazate (yes, quite the long day). I was overwhelmed by the the scattered stars; the place had a genuinely calming emptiness. Everything seemed so simple and spacious, bringing about lots of expansive feelings.

The weather was beautiful, with a nicely chilled breeze: the perfect backdrop to enjoy beautiful scents. We stayed at Le Sultana Royal Golf. Its boutique essence and personal service made us feel as if we were guests at the home of a charming friend.

Day 2
The day started off with a lovely Moroccan breakfast, followed by a one-hour trip to the rose field. A single-lane highway led us into a field of goats, and onto a series of desert dirt roads, before reaching what appeared to be some kind of secret address. We were, truly, in the middle of nowhere, when we finally came upon our destination. It was simply amazing to us how fertile the Moroccan desert must be for it to grow mile upon mile of some of the world’s most precious roses. The air smelt so sweet and so fresh.

We met some of the farm workers, mostly from Morocco’s Berber people. Their make-up was so attractive, with their kohl, blusher, and henna’ed hands. The lacy black bags they used for rose picking added a touch of unexpected beauty – it was all so naturally extravagant!

I was also captivated by the surrounding landscape of snow- capped mountains, desert and green rose fields. Never did I think I could see such great natural contrasts in one single place.

From the fields we headed onwards to a home-made lunch at the rose farmer’s home. We entered his large yellow-painted living room, where the table was set with lots of tea cups, a simple yet sweet arrangement of roses - and oversized sugar cubes.

The food was just delicious – the ingredients organically grown and traditionally cooked, with timeless seasoning. I couldn’t care less about beans normally – in fact they’re the most boring food in the world to me – but at this particular lunch they tasted sensational.

The conversation was equally impressive. The Moroccan language has a unique and eclectic beauty, bouncing smoothly from French and Arabic to local dialects. We were told later that the evening’s dinner would be served in celebratory form, highlighting the Rose Festival with traditional Berber music and live performances.

On arrival at dinner, I was greeted by a loud and confusing cacophony of music belting out of the dining hall. However, as soon as I walked in I was immediately charmed by the old man on the drums, his beat, the singing, and all the glorious folklore. Once I fully grasped it, it was absolutely entrancing!

Day 3
On our third day in Ouarzazate, we visited the rose distillery, where we were able to witness first-hand where Green Bar’s future Moroccan rose water and rose oil products would be produced. We learned that rose distillation takes place annually in Ouarzazate and only during May, hence the accompanying rose festival celebrations that we had enjoyed the previous evening.

The large warehouse at the factory contained many fancy barrels and lots of complicated, oversized pieces of equipment. That came as no surprise, since it takes 500 kilos of roses to produce just 0.1 kilo of essential rose oil. This is exactly why the purest of oils come with such a high price tag.

Day 4
“Why fly when you can drive through some of the world’s most beautiful scenery?”
On to Marrakech, and while we could have flown, crossing the Atlas mountains and passing through some of the most beautiful valleys in the world seemed a little more appealing. So, we took a car. My fascination with palm trees was well satisfied by seeing them against a backdrop of such stunningly diverse landscapes: mountains, snow, deserts, valleys, rivers, wild and cultivated, and altogether just perfect.

We stopped by an argan oil- making stall in the middle of the mountains. Argan production is a finely-crafted hand process, which is generating business for the local women in the mountains. As we arrived, a lady in a leopard- print robe asked us if we would like to be spoken to in English, Arabic or French! We were floored by her excellent language skills and thought about the many potential opportunities there are in further promoting this valuable resource, through the liberation provided by education and communication skills.

The argan tree is found only in Morocco and its oil is both cosmetic and edible; we tasted a mixture of roasted argan oil with almond paste and honey – delicious! And the oil’s beauty benefits are just as amazing too! The mountain bread we tasted with the argan oil was just divine; in fact, we could definitively tell the difference between bread made with fresh grain and what is normally available from the supermarkets back home.

Marrakech

We arrived at the Jnane Tamsna, a stunning retreat in the Palmerie set in botanic garden-style grounds. It was bags down and straight out for dinner at the Lotus bar and restaurant with our visiting Casablanca friends, followed by a boogie at another of the city’s hot spots, Bo Zin.

Day 5
The market was an obvious must-see and to be honest the whole experience was rather emotional! I came to the realisation that bargaining was a new territory for me, and found the harassment quite overwhelming. I’m not very good at saying no, so that - combined with a lack of politeness- took me right out of my comfort zone! Thank goodness for my friends, who managed to haggle on my behalf.

The main square was filled with food stalls and smells, motorcycles whizzing past us left, right and centre, snake charmers, monkeys, and the sound of traditional music. We visited the recent bomb blast site and paid our respects to those who perished, while witnessing a peace parade by young people chanting ‘No to terrorism. Yes to harmony’. A wind-down tea at Marrakech’s colonially inspired Café de la Poste followed this exhilarating, colourful and noisy afternoon.

Day 6
After an enchanting visit to the Marjorelle Garden, which Yves Saint Laurent had restored, we were deluged by a mini-tidal wave when our hotel was hit by vicious rain storms! We did see the humour in
it – after being moved to our very own villa, and saving our shoes, of course.

Our final day was spent peacefully in the stunning- surroundings of our hotel. With its beautiful gardens, Jnane Tamsna has clearly taken full advantage of everything the Moroccan landscape has to offer.

As many of you should already know, Tamara Al Gabbani's debut appearance at this year's Cannes Film Festival has impressively received an alarming amount of attention, both locally and globally (indeed, pleasing).

Having recently signed up with the internationally renowned PR expert, Rozan Ahmed (also, founder of bougi), Tamara Al Gabbani, fashion designer, actress, humanitarian, and one of Dubai's biggest personalities, made her Cannes red carpet debut at Naomi Campbell's Fashion For Relief 'Japan Appeal', in association with Vogue Italia and Chopard.

She arrived wearing a gorgeous number from her very own collection, to whom Anna Dello Rosso (amongst many more) commented on most positively. The Column, this month, comes to you live from the stunning settings of Kenya’s capital, Nairobi. Indeed, here I am – again – for a fifth time, in four months. Not that I’m complaining mind, because this place I just cherish. Apart from the some of the most beautiful landscapes ever to grace mine eye, the food here is quite something.

And no, I haven’t been on the typical ‘safari’, not now, not ever. You see the idea of voluntarily coming close to man-eating animals is not an activity I find [remotely] appealing; like one Massai man so simply put it, “that’s how people die.”

Naivasha: Simple green, in a dream.

So, the We Want Peace campaign sees me back in this African gem as we enter the project’s most recent phase in focus: Tribalism. Emmanuel Jal, alongside Kenya’s most prolific artist/climate change ambassador/freedom of information kingpin, Juliani, have come together to push the critical message of anti-tribalism in Kenya, Sudan, and across Africa.

Following the campaign’s lead single, We Want Peace, which received support from the likes of Alicia Keys, George Clooney, Kofi Annan, former US president Jimmy Carter, Peter Gabriel, Richard Branson and other high profile individuals from all over the place, WWP’s latest transition not only incorporates the musical talents of Emmanuel and Juliani, but (and wow!), the project also sees a legion of Africa’s most inspiring leaders lend a vocal hand too, including Presidential candidate Martha Karua, investment tycoon Jimnah Mbaru, PR Guru Gina Din and many more of the region’s most influential.

There are more pyramids in Sudan than anywhere else in the world. 223 in total, actually.

Prior to Kenya, was Sudan. The British council were playing host to their annual International music festival and the UK’s literal lyrical leader, Akala, was invited to headline their Khartoum show, which took place in the capital’s national museum.

Just FYI, Sudan has more pyramids than anywhere else on earth, the world’s first universities – in Sudan. The first form of written communication, ever, on the planet – found in Sudan. History’s first queens? In Sudan (which would then explain my regal tendencies? ;-)

I could go on, but you catch my drift. Sudan's original greatness is precisely why its programmed tragedies remain today. You can always email me for more elaboration on this unfortunate fact.

History is our greatest power.

Did I mention I met Stevie Wonder recently? Well, I did. Quite the moment (much thanks to Abu Dhabi's Flash). And, did I mention it's my birthday in this beautiful month of May? Well, I am now. And, as with every year, Rozan's bday will not be taken lightly, at all. Excuse me as I prepare the memorable celebrations, in Bahrain, Morocco, Dubai, Cannes and London. I'm turning 30. It is completely justified.

When we meet, Rozan Ahmed has just returned from a month long stint championing a peace campaign in Nairobi. “I represented a fantastic initiative called ‘We Want Peace’, spearheaded by former Sudanese child soldier turned author and singer Emmanuel Jal,” she says. “It was one of my soul nourishing projects.”

For those who only know Ahmed as the woman behind bougi, the Bahraini social-networking group responsible for exclusive events on the island and beyond, it seems a bit of a departure. But dig deeper into her career history and everything falls into place. “I’ve always been interested in music and politics,” says the Sudanese/British entrepreneur. “My father has a real connection with music, which influenced my tastes. My interest in politics, change, and development really came about in the aftermath of 9/11. I was a Muslim, in London. I learnt a lot about myself, and the power of perception.”

After graduating with a media and communications degree, Ahmed joined the staff at a London-based urban-music magazine, where she worked with A-list artists such as P Diddy, Beyoncé, Estelle, Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z. She also played a fundamental role in propelling the now popular British urban music scene. But politics remained an underlying passion, so when offered the role of public information officer for Sudan’s new UN mission, she jumped at the chance.

Based in Khartoum (with stints in Juba, Darfur, Kenya and Uganda) for four years, Ahmed’s projects included setting up sister missions, establishing a national radio station, and coordinating a celebratory concert, which first brought her into contact with Emmanuel Jal. “Music is the most emotive and powerful form of communication, and it can really make a difference, if utilised conscientiously” she says.

Ahmed moved to Bahrain in 2008, having fallen in love with the island while visiting on holiday. She set up her own representation consultancy as a day job (www.rozanahmed.com), meanwhile establishing bougi to provide her adopted home with the kind of entertainment she missed from her days in London. “Bougi’s events always have something extra,” says Ahmed. “It may be a leading international DJ, our unique use of the internet, blogs, facebook and twitter, a cool injection of art or avenue such as the Amwaj beach house, which we used over the 2010 F1 weekend.”

The most important aspect, however, is bougi’s invitation-only guest list of stylish, creative go-getters. “Exclusivity for members is key,” she says. “We create a comfortable space for like-minded people to meet and basically, truly, chill.”

Soooo, according to the UK's Daily Star (indeed, it therefore can't be THAT reliable, but here goes, for entertainment's sake)...Mr. Future King of England, Prince William, and his bride-to-be, Kate Middleton, have asked Jay Z and Beyoncé to perform 'Crazy In Love' at their absurdly coveted royal wedding this coming Friday.

We like us some hip hop, we do.

The Palace refused to confirm or deny whether Jay and B have accepted the invitation, but they are both in Europe at the moment, and who in their right mind would refuse a media opportunity like this, really.

I for one remember Jay Z's excitement at meeting the groom's father a few years back. As headliner for the Prince's Trust Urban Music Festival, a meet and greet with Daddy Charles was an apparent must for the hip hop mogul, so, we're pretty sure its an 'oh yes' to the blue blooded invitation.

I personally look forward to Ms. Knowles teaching the Queen a thing or two, about being bootylicious.

Well. I’d like to say that this is the first time I’ve experienced a war zone; unsettlement, literal refugee status, confusion, violation, and other such depressing lark. But, it’s not. I’d also like to say that it gets easier through experience, but it doesn’t.

After all the politics, the unending opinion, the unnecessary violence, the sorry and surprising hatred (?), there is sorrow. We, as human beings, are all in pain. Bahrainis, non-Bahrainis, Sunnis and Shia, now need to come together and heal this Kingdom, so collectively adored. Anyone not interested in actively showing some respect, and a lot of love, should consider going elsewhere. I’m just saying.

Bahrain: The only way is up.

So! "Onto the next one" was my mantra this month. And what an internationally eclectic month it was. Post a visit to Thailand for some necessary retreating, it was back to Bahrain for a wonderfully memorable affair celebrating the art of the ‘old’:

Then, Dubai. for Art Dubai. As most of those who read this [superb] column already know, I’ve never been Dubai’s biggest fan. *HOWEVER* such things like the Pavilion (a very impressive ‘LA-esque’ artistic space somewhere near Dubai mall), the impressive work of Tamara Al Gabbani and other home grown starlets, Armani Prive's retro-inspired interior, the eggplant at Okku (don’t judge me until you try it), and now, the excellence of Art Dubai, has resulted in a liking for the place.

I’m impressed with what appears to be a more authentic (and accomplished) rise of talent in the glossy emirate, with a whirl of exciting projects in the wake.

On Saturday 12th March 2011, selected guests gathered for an exclusive ladies luncheon celebrating Atelier Mayer's arrival in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Who needs a wedding planner?

A wedding planner is essentially an events management expert. Someone you can rely on to get things done. So, if you're a bride who wants to focus on yourself, your beauty, your friends, and basically stay concentrated on the self-indulgent joy that is being a bride, you need a wedding planner. If you want for your dream wedding to run exactly as you had imagined, with every beautiful idea made a reality, you need a wedding planner. If you're getting married, and don't know where to start, the answer is always a wedding planner.

You started out doing entertainment events, how did the wedding planning aspect of your services come around?

A wedding is, by all means, an 'entertainment event'. For example, and practically speaking, the only difference between an extravagant gala dinner and a wedding is the participation of a bride, and the concentrated elements that apply to her, such as her dress, her lifestyle management needs, make-up, hair, possibly packaging her honeymoon preferences, and so on.

What was the most elaborate request you have had from a bride?

No bride has ever asked for anything more elaborate than some of my other music and arts based clients. Luckily, my brides have been quite reasonable, but elaborate can always be achieved.

It is difficult to please not only the bride but the guests and the groom?

Not really, you see a fundamental role in being a good wedding planner is quite often wearing the hat of "family councillor"! The bride's obviously the priority, but most brides want for those around them to be happy too. This is where the art of public relations is key. I work with all members of the family, particularly the mother, the groom, the sisters. Everyone's input should be considered, with the understanding that bride comes first, of course.

Have you ever been requested to include something in the wedding that you felt was going to ruin the overall theme? Did you go ahead with it? If not, how did you manage to dissuade the bride?

Compromise. There has been the odd occasion where a bride will ask for something thematically off, but a comfortable middle ground tends to do the trick. It's her day at the end of it all, and if she really wants for something to happen, I'll do whatever it takes to make it work well.

Do you find that clients are happy to entirely entrust you with the decision making process or are they more likely to constantly contact you with new ideas, changes and requests?

Luckily, I've developed a very good reputation in the region, those who have attended my events have seen for themselves the results of my work. Because of that, I am trusted to work my magic, without continuous follow up. Last minute changes come with the territory of every event management process, so I'm always ready for that kind of phone call!

As seen every month, in Oh La La Magazine

Err. WOW?

As a non-judgemental, non-Bahraini, who sincerely appreciates Bahrain, let me say this:

There's a unique air of beauty in the Kingdom. A sense of soul, peace and love, unsurpassed. This wasn't generated by a single group, but by the nation's people. It's an overall "Bahraini thing". Can't we just hold on to that? ''B3d?''

It was from 2004 - 2008 that I worked for the United Nations. It had its perks, such as a 7 day holiday every 8 weeks - indeed, sweet. I was stationed in the Horn of Africa, and so decided to visit a number of surrounding countries. Bahrain was one of them. The Formula One Grand Prix, back in 2006. Intrigued (mostly by Michael Jackson making it his choice of residence), off I went to see the Kingdom. Again, and again, and again.

In fact, in the space of 18 months, I'd visited Bahrain 10 times. Some may call it absurd (whatever), I call it finding a like-minded haven. A cultural balance between tradition and modernity, so suited to my liking. An abundance of spas (I like to self-indulge, you see), a unique sense of hospitality, warmth, and pride. The 'island vibe', with forward thinking. A nicely paced, progressing development, with respect to an impressive history. All I needed really.

By the end of 2008, I did an 'MJ'. I too made the rather bold move of making Bahrain my homebase. Without benefits, or any kind of preferential treatment, I, like may other [sunni, shi'ia and international] entrepreneurs in the Kingdom, worked hard, utilised opportunities, enjoyed the tax-free environment, and ended up doing rather well. For that, I would like to thank Bahrain, and all that is within it.

As with every single country on the planet, there are the noted shortfalls. None however seemed as bad/tragic/corrupt/detrimental to the nation, as what I had witnessed elsewhere; so, once again, I am thankful for Bahrain.

Looking at this all with a profiler's lens, western media have said enough on the ongoing troubles of our treasured Kingdom, and as a former Public Information specialist with the UN, who had to manage much of them on a number of high level press trips, I am fully aware of the foreign journalists' need to sensationalise (they're called 'hounds' for a reason) . The bloodier the story, the bigger the cheque. Dramatise, and you will be glorified. Simplicity, is key. Destruction = lovely. That pretty much sums up most of their outlook when it comes to coverage.

So, while Mr. ad Mrs. international media scurry across the Kingdom making money off Bahrain's blood, they too have managed to incite hatred, create further divide, and polarise political/social issues in the most unethical, un-investigative manner, imaginable.

Allow me to relay a discussion I had with one of the protestors:

Protestor: Are you trying to say BTV is more reliable than [a Western TV station]?

Me: Are you trying to say [that Western TV station] is more reliable than BTV? The same station which once accused Obama of being Osama Bin Laden's ally, because their names sounded similar? Have you chosen to support a station that pays for the blood of your brothers and sisters?

Protestors: What do you mean?

Me: The bloodier the story, the more these journalists, who claim to be 'covering Bahrain' - except they've only covered one opinion - are paid.

Protestor: They're paid for that? Really?

Me: Yes, really. They've been accused by pro-Government supporters of being one-sided. But are they? You'd have to care about a situation to take sides.

Protestor: I had no idea they got paid.

Me: Well, now you do. Peace, love and dialogue, with Bahrainis, for Bahrainis, with positive intention for all those who love the land.

Protestor: Hmmm. There is a problem of unity, but I guess we should stand by Bahrain, before anyone else.

Me: I guess.

God bless you Bahrain. May the issues be resolved in an amicable environment of unity and loyalty. May those who perished, rest in peace, and may the Kingdom become a better, more beautiful place, for all.

Dubai's social butterfly, inspiring fashion designer, up and coming actress, humanitarian heart of gold, every designer's dream mannequin, and a global force of artistic creativity to be reckoned with.

It comes as no surprise then, that Tamara Al Gabbani was recently featured as 'Pioneer' in Ahlan's Hot 100, an annual UAE based publication highlighting the region's influential sorts.

Here's the full story:

“I once received advice on life from a very special person and I applied it to everything. She said, ‘It’s not going to be easy, but you’ve got to fight the fight, you’ve got to breathe and feel the positivity inside. It’s a conscious decision to feel positive.’” And this successful actress, TV personality, fashion designer and co-founder of House of GlaMO is definitely fighting to go places.

“I feel very excited this year, with numerous projects in the pipeline,” reveals the brains-with-beauty role model. “House of GlaMO has new themed collections that’ll be launched with entertaining events, I’m establishing a ‘Tamara Al Gabbani’ signature brand, which will revolve around ready-to-wear dresses for the modern feminine woman and collaborations will be a big part of 2011.”

Tamara also wants to take her acting more seriously with several films and showcases lined up. “I’m not your average person. I have many dreams and simulataneously work at achieving all of them. That’s what I live for, so I couldn’t ever do just one thing. Fashion, acting, television and anything humanitarian, these are my paths. All you truly have is right now. Live it!”

Just for the record, and out of respect for the Kingdom we adore (more so than some of the protestors, sadly) bougi will celebrate Bahrain's stability, once it returns to stability.

And no, all bougi plans for this year's Formula One, are obviously and unfortunately on hold.

For those who don't know the full story, here's a very brief nutshell:

Bahrain is ruled by a Sunni royal family, a monarchy, not a dictatorship, or an oppressive regime. The Government isn't exactly perfect (please introduce us to one that is), but nevertheless, better and more forward, than most. Bahrain's population are predominantly shi'ia. However, the sunni/shi'ia problem, isn't so much of a problem anymore, as depicted by the simple folk - otherwise known as most Western press.

Sunnis and Shi'ias are united in their pro-Government support, as are other sunnis and shi'ias in their discrepancies with the Government. Saying that, these 'discrepancies', if presented to your average Egyptian, Yemeni, Libyan, Tunisian, Iraqi, or Irani, are actually, a little laughable.

Now, as a firm advocate for peace, and a non-judgemental non-Bahraini, I have a few questions, with regards to the Kingdom's 'situation':

1. If, as all Bahraini residents do, you received free healthcare, free education, free housing and benefits of up to 750 USD per month (for the unemployed), would you take it upon yourself - and your children - to go along to a public monument, a congested roundabout in fact, vandalise it, and then...sleep there? Would you, as a sensible human being, put your children at risk like that?

Why wasn't parliament chosen as a more viable camping option? Or maybe, one of the prisons? Wouldn't that have been more effective in meeting both constitutional and detainee concerns? I'm just saying.

2. Wouldn't you be grateful, as a law abiding citizen, for the [rather fortunate] platform provided? Or, would you consider making a couple of Molotov bombs? Drive (yes, many drove to their place of protest), park your personally owned vehicle, and proceed to disrespect your own land?

*Granted, the tanks were totally uncalled for. Brutal and just ugly, but were the bombs, called for? There seems to be some significant hatred going on here...why?

*Taxes are part of a so-called ''democracy''...just by the way. Again, I'm JUST saying :-)

3. Egyptians wanted to eat. Over 2 million of them are homeless - sidewalk/Tahrir Square/cardboard box/tent...same same. This isn't Egypt.

What do Bahrain's protestors want? Exactly?

4. Reform is ongoing. Constitutional concerns: A worldwide problem. Corruption: Please. Show me one country that isn't?

My final question: Yes, there's Governmental problems. Understood. But with health taken care of, education available, subsidies aplenty and opportunities all over the place, I really cannot understand this *high* level of anger. Why are they, so, mad?

Remember. Read carefully. Questions are being asked. Nothing has been stated as fact. I look forward to your tangible, educated answers, if any.

Last (but never least), I offer all of Bahrain's protestors a personal invitation to Africa. Or maybe Iran. A few American ghettos, even. Enjoy an unpleasant dose of harsh reality, genuine struggle, affirmative 'discrimination'. You'll be kissing Bahrain soil and screaming love for King Hamad louder a bunch of excited groupies. PEACE.

There's something quite obviously wrong with going to the same venue 3 times in one week. That venue, is Dubai's Okku restaurant.

Trust, that I have my reasons:

1. The eggplant. Worryingly addictive.

2. The cocktails. Deliciously superb (we suggest you ask for 'The Rozan' ;-) The barman and I, we concocted a little something, to my liking).

3. The vibe. Pretty nice. Laid back. 'Cosy'.

4. The location. Insanely convenient.
