AN ANNOUNCEMENT: THE GATWITCH FESTIVAL PRESS CONFERENCE. TRIBE HOTEL. 10:00. WEDNESDAY 1 DECEMBER 2010.


AN INVITATION: As an esteemed member of the press, we invite you to attend a press conference for Gatwitch Records' upcoming arts festival with EMMANUEL JAL, ISHMAEL BEAH, IARA LEE, JULIANI, JEFFREY KIMATHI & MORE.


WHERE: The Tribe Hotel, Nairobi, Kenya

WHEN: Wednesday 1st December 2010.

WHAT TIME: 10:00 SHARP.

THE DETAILS: Gatwitch Festival, an inspirational 3-day show of music, poetry, film screenings and speaking will kick off on Thursday 2nd December 2010.

Organised by Gatwich, the international record label founded by Emmanuel Jal (www.emmanueljal.com), the festival will include a two-day conference at Silverbird Westgate from 2-3 December, followed by a full day music concert at the Makini School Grounds, off Riara Road on 4 December.

The list of speakers reads like a who’s who of international innovators in politics, music, social development and the arts.  H.E. Joseph W.N. Nyagah, Minister of Cooperative Development & Marketing; Ishmael Beah, author of the New York Times bestseller, ‘A Long Way Gone’; Jeffrey Kimathi, founder of the New York based clothing line, Jamhuri Wear and Mark Somen, General manager of one of Kenya’s most beautiful hotels, The Tribe.

Emmanuel Jal
International hip hop sensation, author, actor and peace activist, Emmanuel Jal, will headline the music show, performing old favorites as well as debuting his new single turned global anthem ‘’We Want Peace’’. The video for Jal’s latest track, which also kicks off the ‘’We Want Peace’’ campaign, was recently shot on the streets of Nairobi, and will feature Kofi Annan, President Jimmy Carter, Richard Branson as well as many other UK/US music stars.


Other fantastic performers appearing at the Gatwich Festival include Arama Mara, the nu-jazz, rockabilly and ska performer coming all the way from New York City. Local celebrity artists gracing the Gatwich stage will be Daddy Owen, Atemi Oyungu, Juliani, Harry Kimani, Abbi, Mutinda, Winyo, Dan Chizi Aceda and Nina Ogot, amongst others.
