Word.

A wonderful step forward in the Kingdom's growing arts scene was made this evening, with Sotheby's choosing Bahrain as the optimum location to showcase pieces from its upcoming auction, ''Hurouf: The Art of the Word'', in Doha later this year.

Invited guests were the first to preview a small selection of pieces put together to highlight the significance and diversity of Arabic calligraphy.

A taster, if you will, of what's to come at the Sotheby's sale in Doha, each piece of art presented its unique contemporarily influenced take on the ''Arabic word''.

Below was a particular favorite (not at the exhibition unfortunately, but found in the accompanying booklet, as part of the sale).

For those interested, the exhibition will be open to the public on Wednesday 10 November, at the Ritz Marquee, from 10am and throughout the day.

The auction itself will be in Doha on 16 December, also at the Ritz, where the above and a number of other exquisite pieces will go on sale.
